EDFN 338 Foundations of American Education Field Experience Assignment - Fall 2001

Field Experience Time Requirement: 12-hour Level I field experience.

Course Assignment(s):

Field Experiences Journal: You are required to keep a journal throughout the semester. You are to respond to the required journal entries.  Your entries should reflect your perceptions, feelings, and learning about field experiences as well as required topics as well as a day by day account of the activities and happenings while you are at the school. (see syllabus and/or Field Experience Journal Requirements on instructors’ homepages)

Field Experience Summary (narrative essay): Use the information from your journal entries to help you write your field experience summary for your electronic portfolio (see the portfolio information for more details-- http://www.departments.dsu.edu/educate/portfolio/default.htm

Direct Observations (2):  

You are to do two direct observations in the classroom.  Examples of observations include event sampling, time sampling, scripting, selective verbatim, frequency counts, coding systems, and seating chart systems.  Some samples will be provided or you can create your own.  This will be discussed in class and discussed further.   

You will select two and do the observations and submit it for grading.  They will be worth 25 points.

Assessment:

Passing this course is contingent upon satisfactory completion of all field experiences.

Field Experience Journal 25 Points
Field Experience Reflection Paper 25 Points
Direct Observation Instruments (2) 25 Points
Completing Logins, Timesheets, etc. 25 Points

 At the completion of your field experience, your assigned cooperating teacher will complete the online Level I Student Evaluation Form on your performance and verify your Timesheet. (Printouts will be on file in the College of Education Office and copies made available to students upon request.)

Database Record (timesheets and evaluation): Logon to the Field Experience Database and complete the Timesheet you created for EDFN 338 after each visit or attendance at an on-campus session.

Due dates: 12 hour field experience and timesheets to be completed by December 7, 2001

Students who do not comply with the outlined procedures and guidelines may be placed on a Field Experience Plan for Professional Development in accordance with the College of Education’s Expectations for Professional Conduct.
