Dakota State University has been recognized by both the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a national Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance. Of the more than 3,600 colleges and universities in the United States, only 66 have earned this national designation. Dakota State joined an elite group of academic institutions that have been selected for this designation, including Stanford University, Georgia Tech University, Johns Hopkins University, Carnegie Mellon University, George Mason University, James Madison University, and George Washington University. Dakota State University is the only university to earn this national designation in the Upper Midwest as no other university in Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, or Wisconsin is designated as a center of academic excellence.
