Language Arts/Reading Math Science

There is some information to share with you that might be helpful for the upcoming Praxis study sessions. That information includes:

1.       http://everyteacher.tie.net/content/praxis.htm

This website has everything that we have concerning the Praxis exams – dates and locations for the study sessions, online registration for the study sessions, and a page with all of the Praxis information that Melody e-mailed out. If you have additional information/links that you would like added to this page, please e-mail them to me.

2.       There are a ton of questions concerning highly-qualified status and which tests should be taken by specific special education teachers. Melody’s office went through the list of everyone that is registered for study sessions on Saturday. That list is attached to this e-mail. It should help answer some of the specific questions that you receive. If there are questions about the information on this spreadsheet, you can call the DOE Office of Accreditation & Teacher Quality at 773-3553. Here is some additional information that Melody sent on to help interpret the spreadsheet:

·        If the SPED teacher does not teach core content AT ALL but only works in a consultative mode with the classroom teacher delivering instruction, they do not need to take any tests!  We do not calculate HQT status if they don’t teach core content.

·        If the SPED teacher has a double major with elementary education and 3 years of teaching, they are HQT for K-6.

·        If the SPED teacher has any middle school endorsements and 3 years of experience, they are highly qualified in those content areas for middle through high school.

·        If the SPED teacher does not have a double major, they should take the Middle School generalist test that will give them only HQT status for K-12 and will not add endorsements on the certificate.

·        If the SPED teacher does not have a double major and teaches ONLY in elementary, they can take the Elementary test and be HQT for K-6 (this will not make them an elementary teacher).

·        If the SPED teacher already has some middle school endorsements, they may want to take the individual middle school tests as this would give them additional areas of HQT AND would add the endorsements in those areas on their certificate.

·        Middle school tests make them HQT for K-12

·        Elementary test makes them HQT for K-6.
