I enjoy any kind of hand craft I can (no pun intended) get my hands on.  I started out doing embroidery.  Really enjoyed this, but then moved on to crocheting.  While in England, I learned to knit and have been knitting up a storm ever since.  Recently I took up counted cross stitch.  However, this takes a bit of time to learn, so I do it, but I don't know if it is a good as I want it to be.  Oh well, I will get the hang of it.  I also use my embroidery in conjunction with knitting to create patterns on knitted items.  I then combine my crochet skills with my knitting skills to enhance borders and collars on knitted items.

I find my crafts relaxing and rewarding.  Often I will take something with me to work on while I am at the movies or in meetings.  I find it helps me concentrate more on what is going on, instead of thinking about what I could be working on if I were at home.

Because I enjoy my handcrafts so much (especially the knitting and crocheting), there are a lot of sites I have found that really help me enhance these skills.  I have provided just a few below.  Most of these sites have great free patterns which means I don't have to store them at home, I just go out and look for one and then print it out and use it.  Registration is free and so are many of the patterns.

Lion Brand Yarn

Coats and Clark and Red Heart Yarn

Bernat Yarn

I also found a program that is on TV now on the SD Public Television Station.  It is called Knit and Crochet today.  They also have a web site. This site has a lot of great things, including free patterns and videos that demonstrate stitches, etc. for both crocheting and knitting.
