Course Description  
This seminar styles course will familiarize school leaders with the technological, financial and other issues related to deploying a

1 to 1 computer initiative.  Participants will be better prepared to plan for, implement and assess the impact of 1 to 1

computing for their district. 


Computing Requirements
      1.   Access to the Internet and email. Familiarity with basic computing and telecommunicating functions 
      2.   Access to a DDN location for bridging the course to you.  If you miss a session, it will be encoded for later web viewing.  
 

Core Objectives
This course is designed to enable learners to:  

1.       Become knowledgeable of the opportunities and implications of a 1 to 1 computing initiative.  (COE Standard 1, 4; NCATE 1

2.       Develop implementation strategies for supporting a 1to 1 computing initiative. (COE Standard 11; NCATE 1, 3)  

3.       Develop a systematic approach to understand and evaluate a 1 to 1 computing initiative that for supports teaching, learning and assessment. (COE Standard 2, 3, 7; NCATE 1, 4)  

4.       Become familiar with varied technology and tools of 1 to 1 computing.  (COE Standard 2, 4, 7; NCATE 1, 3)  

5.       Be aware of the pros and cons in implementing 1 to 1 computing to enhance collaborative and interactive learning.  (COE Standard 11; NCATE 1, 3)  


Instructional Methodologies

  1. Delivery: This course will be delivered mainly using room based video facilities such as DDN.
  2. Readings: Supplementary readings are provided on the Web.  
  3. Concepts and practice integrated: This course will integrate concepts of 1 to 1 computing.
  4. Learning approach: Participant-centered, constructive and collaborative learning will be the principal approach used in this course. Participants are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning. Guidance will be provided to help students develop a strategic approach to implementing 1 to 1 computing.   
  5. Class Interaction: Email exchange and discussion/bulletin board will be used as a complimentary forum to the weekly seminars.

Grading and Assignments
Participation:
This course requires Participants to be actively involved in exploring the world of 1 to 1 computing. Participants will be expected to participate in class activities and discussions.  Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory.

Graduate Nature of the Course            
Participants will research, discuss, and apply current pedagogy on effective integration 1 to 1 computing technologies into the teaching and learning process. Participants will         reflect on changes in pedagogy based on the results of application of new technologies in   the classroom.
