EXPERIENCE

8/98- present:  Professor of Management, College of Business and Information Systems, Dakota State University. Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service in the operations management area.

8/96-6/98: Chair, Department of Management and Decision Sciences and Professor of Operations Management, Florida Gulf Coast University. A Founding member of the leadership team of the College of Business responsible for developing programs, curriculum, and the recruiting of faculty. FGCU is the tenth Florida state university and has a liberal arts and primarily undergraduate mission. The university opened in Fall 1997.

Lead a department of eleven faculty and deliver curriculum at the undergraduate (BS degree) and graduate (MBA) level in general management, entrepreneurship, human resource management, and manufacturing and operations systems. The department also provides courses in the College of Business Executive MBA program.

9/93-8/96: Associate Professor of Integrated Science and Technology, College of Integrated Science and Technology, James Madison University. Part of the startup of a new program which integrates science, technology and business into one curriculum. Primary duties since fall 1993 have been curriculum development, teaching, and service on University level committees.

James Madison University

Received a 1988 James Madison University FAST ($500) grant to support research in automatic data collection systems. Grant resulted in two publications.

Part of the initial leadership team which developed the founding curriculum, policies, and procedures for the FGCU College of Business. 1996 – 1998.

Chair, Department of Management and Decision Sciences Search Committee 1996-97. Identified and recruited four new faculty. Areas of specialty included: Strategic Management, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, and Organizational Development.

Served on the Decision Sciences search committee, the Marketing search committee, the COB Library Liaison search committee, and the Associate Dean for External Relations search committee during 1996-97.

Faculty Senate - 1993-94 and 1994-95.

The University Council - 1994-95. The purpose of the University Council was to advise and to assist the president of the University in formulating and implementing University policy.

Liberal Studies Committee - 1993-94. This committee was responsible for oversight of the Liberal Studies program at JMU including review/approval of courses for the six component areas.

Faculty Senate Reconciliation Committee - 1993-94. This committee offered advice and counsel to members of the faculty and administration who seek it and shall attempt to reconcile conflicts related to matters of privilege, academic freedom, and tenure.

Summer Research Grant Evaluation Committee - 1993-94 [20 awards] and 1994-95 [18 awards]. Reviewed all submissions and awarded summer research grants of $3000 each to faculty across all Colleges of the University.

College of Business Dean Search Committee - 1994-95. Reviewed over 90 vitas, participated in interview and selection process.

Carrier Library Faculty-Student Advisory Committee - Member for 1989-90 and 1994-95 and Chair, 1990-92. Reviewed library policies and supported changes/implementation.

Commission on the Library of the 21st Century - Member, 1990-91. Studied the needs of libraries for 21st Century including access vs. ownership issues.

Freshman Advisor for 1990-91. Worked with over 90 Freshman while they adjusted to university life.

College of Integrated Science and Applied Technology Committee - 1989-92. Participated in the initiation and development of the concept of this college.

Freshman-Sophomore College Committee - 1989-90. Studied the need for a Freshman-Sophomore College to assist undeclared students transitioning to declared status.

Faculty Affairs Commission - Two year appointment, 1986-88. Responsible for studying issues of importance to the faculty of JMU and making recommendations.

Entrepreneurship - Business Incubator Task Force - 1987-88. Studied the use of land owned by the University to develop a business incubator facility in conjunction with the Entrepreneurship Center.

Masters Degree Proposal Committee - Chair, 1993-95. Responsible for the development of a new Master’s program in Integrated Science and Technology. Required coordination of all faculties, communication with Graduate School and Graduate Curriculum and Instruction Committees.

Student Recruiting Committee - 1993-95. Participated in recruiting students for the ISAT major. This included attending receptions for early acceptance students, interviewing students

Faculty Recruiting Committee - 1993-95. Participated in the hiring of faculty for positions in Science and Technology Policy, Simulation and Modeling, Biotechnology, and Physics.

Employer Recruiting Committee - 1994-95. Initiated programs to recruit potential employers of our graduates.

Personnel Action Committee - 1993-94 [2 tenure decisions] and Chair, 1994-95 [1 promotion decision].

College of Business Liaison Committee -1993-94 and Chair, 1994-95. This committee sought to identify points of collaboration between the College of Business and the College of Integrated Science and Technology.

Graduate Curriculum Committee - 1994-95. This committee was responsible for the review of all graduate curriculums in college. Approved/recommended any changes to curriculums and faculty.

Chair: General Education Grant Proposal - 1994-95 [requested $22,000 to develop an integrated science course for liberal studies program].

Manufacturing Sector Committee - 1993-95. This committee was responsible for the development of 7 courses at the 200-400 levels to provide state of the art instruction in the manufacturing/operations management discipline.

Served on 4 department head search committees. IDS Department Head [2 searches] and Management Department Head [2 searches].

College of Business Academic Initiatives Committee - 1988-89. Authored Departmental section of overall College report. This report detailed exactly where [specific courses] and how [teaching methods] critical thinking, problem-solving and writing across the curriculum were integrated into all IDS courses.

IDS Department Faculty Search Committee - Chair, 1991-92. Recruited faculty to fill Production and Operations Management discipline.

IDS Department Promotion and Tenure Committee - 1991-93. Reviewed credentials for tenure and promotion decisions.

IDS Department Curriculum & Instruction Committee - 1986-1991. Participated in a major review of both Computer Information Systems and Production and Operations Management curriculums. Reviews of both curriculums were ongoing.

HONORS AND AWARDS

Selected to participate in a year long Leadership Diversity Program 1996-97. This program is designed to identify and help ethnic minority and/or female employees prepare for leadership positions in higher education and is sponsored by the Florida Department of Education with matching funds provided by the member institutions. It provided a $750 stipend and a series of workshops on leadership topics.

Selected to participate in the State University System (SUS) Department Chairperson Workshops sponsored by the Institute for Academic Leadership at Florida State University. This includes two, 3-day intensive workshops on issues facing the academic department chair.

Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma National Scholastic Honor Society in Business and Administration.

Selected to participate in the James Madison University Initiatives [Critical Thinking, Problem-solving, and Writing Across the Curriculum] workshop, 1987.

Selected as an "Outstanding Young Woman of America" for 1987.

Selected as a member of the Production and Operations Management Doctoral Consortium at the 1984 Academy of Management meeting.

Paper entitled "Material Requirements Planning as a Tool for Implementing Business Unit Strategy," was awarded third place in the 1984 American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) local chapter paper competition.
