bulletCol. Spencer Hawley, who is the 147th Brigade commander, was a surprise guest. He briefed us about the status of our troops and some of the most up to date happenings that were taking place. He gave us an overview of things from the commanders’ perspective. He told us of some of the problems the soldiers were having and wanted us to know how important it was to him that we all kept informed and had a person to reach out to if we had some problems that needed attention. He introduced SFC Chad Haaland to us and informed us that SFC Haaland was at the armory full time to help us if we had questions or problems. Be sure to call him for help.
bulletWe have an address to begin sending mail to now. The address is as follows:
Rank, Firstname, Lastname
HHS Btry./ 2-147th FA Bn.
CSC Cedar II
APO AE   09331

If you do not know your soldier’s rank, etc. Please call SFC Chad Haaland for the proper way to address your envelope or package. Anything sent to this address will be forwarded to the soldier.

bulletWe want to thank the 3 ladies from Mary Kay who came to pamper us and help us have fun. Margo Nelson, Dawn Johnson, and Kelly Diersen. James Sneeden was on hand to give out foot massages and a big thanks to him for "pampering us."
bulletAt this February meeting we continued selling magnets for your "Support Your Troops" fund raiser. We have sold over 1500 magnets. We are at the point of asking "do we need more" ? It seems we are still having calls coming in to buy these magnets. Just think …over 1500 magnets on cars in the state of South Dakota.
bulletAlso, we continued to pass out the pictures and CD’s of the activation ceremony that were donated to us by Heather Kallhoff Portrait Design and her pro lab Whitehouse Custom Colour. Any one interested in a second picture will need to order by March 13th and should contact Sharon Roberts, FSG leader.  Second Picture will be $25.00. We also passed out a Valentine bag that had a special offer from LATI for a haircut or manicure.
bulletPleae let Sharon know you shop HyVee in Watertown or Brookings.  The have offered discount cards that allows you to get 10% off of your groceries at HyVee once a month for a year. One per soldier’s family.
bulletWe also had Craig Fisher-CPA from Hanson, Vilhauer & Raml, PC come to our FSG meeting to give us some information about filing our income tax returns. He is a former military person and has offered to answer any questions regarding our tax returns as long as they are brief questions. His phone number is 886-8425.
bulletHeather Kallhoff will not be able to make the March meeting but would like try and schedule for a time in the summer.  Possibly a picnic in the park would be a good idea for her.
bulletAt the next meeting we are planning to have a mental health expert come to give us some advice in ways to deal with our separation and to show us how best to help our children deal with this separation. There is help for us and we want all to know that the Family Support Group is there to give it or show you where best to find it.
bulletLynn Bastian will be offering to print a picture on a handkerchief for no charge. She will need to receive a picture from you or if you do not have a current picture she has a digital camera and she will be glad to take a picture of yourself or kids or the two of you. bulletIf you want a pillowcase with the picture of the soldier on it for yourself or kids, the cost of the print and pressing is $3.75. You will need to furnish a 50% cotton and 50% polyester pillowcase. Shortly after March 13th a mass mailing of these handkerchiefs will be sent to our soldiers so they all get them about the same time and for them to carry in their pockets to help them feel close to us. Thank you Lynn for giving of your time and the donation of the costs to print these.
bulletWe are having a CONTEST for the cover of our Battalion Cookbook that will be a fund raiser. We are asking the children to help out with this.
